So what is a mood board?

A mood board is a collection of images, collated together, to set the tone of a shoot, to be used as inspiration. It doesn't mean that you are going to totally replicate the image, it just means that there is something in the image that excites you, be it the styling, the lighting, the pose, the mood etc.

Why are mood boards helpful?

Every shoot I do is fully bespoke to you, I have no 'one size fits all' approach here. I aim to create images tailored to you, that you will love for years to come. A mood board helps all those involved in the photoshoot stay on the same page. It sets the tone of the shoot. It's a visual plan. I encourage clients to create mood boards before the shoot, or at the least to let me know which of my images you are drawn to (you can pin directly from my website). This helps me understand if you prefer light/airy or dark/sultry, it also helps me understand if you prefer a more candid natural style or a more posed studio look. If you have a specific look in mind for hair and make up, a mood board can also help my make up artist visualise your preferred look. 

How do I create a mood board?

By far the easiest way to create a mood board is on Pinterest. It's a great resource of inspiration and ideas. You can download the app to your phone or do it on the desktop. Don't forget you can pin images you find on the general internet onto your board too, not just those found on Pinterest. Then feel free to share it with me! (You can read all about Pinterest here.)
